# Denton BTT Vacuum Evaporator ![[IMG_9487.jpg|lg]] ## Pictures [[Denton Vacuum Evaporator Reference Pictures]] ## Background - Turbo Pump: - Made by Alcatel - Uses an OEM control board - Manual [[Alcatel_ATP_Turbo_Pumps_Users_Manual.pdf]] ## Maintenance Log ### Initial Bring Up [[2022-09-20]] - Dropped turbo to visually inspect for debris and free rotation - Found this [[o-ring]] on the turbo foreline, replaced. - ![[IMG_9481.jpg|lg]] - Found this part in bottom of chassie - ![[IMG_9483.jpg|lg]] - ![[IMG_9484.jpg|lg]] - Looked around to see if I could figure out where it came from. Parts was clearly magnetic. Turns out to be one half of the [[penning gauge]] magnet. Its just held in place with its own magnet - ![[IMG_9485.jpg|lg]] - Tried to start up and got a fault indication on the status led and character display. - I had not plugged the turbo pump back in - While plugging the turbo pump back in I noticed that the high voltage multiplier board for the penning gauge was just freely hanging out. It had come off of its plastic insulation snaps. - Reattached board to snaps. - ![[Denton Vacuum Evap Reff Pics7 1.jpeg|lg]] - Clicked the pump down button. Display sat at 9999 torr for a minute or so before rapidly dropping. Turbo engaged as indicated by the ACCEL lamp. - ACCEL lamp went out but NORMAL lamp did not come on. - Tapping on the front panel intermittently turned the LED on. - Turned on Filament 1 - Immediacy filament glowed very bright then burnt out - It was at this moment that I realized that the filament power knob was a 10 turn potentiometer, not a rotary encoder. - Turned off filament 1, current was already at zero though. - Turned on Filament 2 - Was able to make glow brightly around 24 amps - Control was very smooth and repeatable. Control system could likely easily be controlled via external means. - Turned off filament 2 - Lowest pressure reached before shutoff was 3.5E-4 T - Vent program starts after releasing the pump switch. Its a countdown (turbo speed?) that ends with its opening the leak valve, decelerating the turbo the rest of the way. - Turbo Pump Meter - H:1220 M:48 - ![[Denton Vacuum Evap Reff Pics14 1.jpeg|lg]] #### Summery of things to fix or look into - [x] Normal LED not illuminating consistently - Took front mezzanine board off and discovered that one leg of LED was not soldered. - Soldered all LEDS - ![[CleanShot 2022-09-20 at [email protected]|lg]] - Pressure seems potentially high. - [x] First check gauge tube fo r contamination - Gauge was had notable amounts of carbon chop in it, could have been causing low pressure reading due to excessive discharge current. - Pressure now at least getting 1.2E-6 T - [ ] Replace case fans, can hear bearings failing. - ![[Denton Vacuum Evap Reff Pics13 1.jpeg|lg]]
