[[Vapor-Liquid Equilibrium of Mixtures]] ![[3840017_orig.png|500]] [image source](http://jollythermodynamics.weebly.com/phase-diagrams-pxy-txy.html) Visual representations of all possible compositions of a binary mixture over a range of either temperature or pressure. The graphs consist of a bubble line and a dew line, representing the points at which the mixture begins to evaporate and evaporates completely. The mole fractions of a component in the liquid and vapor phase at any temperature/ pressure and the bubble and dew points of a mixture at any composition can be read from the graph. The more volatile component, referred to as component 1, is graphed. ## xy graphs The liquid and vapor mole fractions can also be graphed against each other. They are compared through the distribution factor, $K_1 = \frac{y_1}{x_1}$, and the relative volatility, $\frac {K_1}{K_2}$.
