## “The Perfect Pie”

> There is no rule to say that your visual display needs to be a rectangle. At this Shingo-Prize winning facility in Matamoras, Mexico, ten pie-shaped visual displays like this one show the exact status for each of this site's ten sets of three extrusion machines. Can you see how? We bet you can—even if you do not know the Spanish language.
> HINT-1: Those three arrows are moveable, thanks to Velcro.
> HINT-2: The arrows point to critical information on the outside edge.
> HINT-3: There is a direct connection between what the arrows point to and the orange "tickets" hanging on the left.
> HINT-4: Each of the four yellow pie slices points to another special machine condition.
> NOW: Are you ready to share the meaning of this remarkable visual display? You bet! Let the workplace speak
## Workflow management

> _Red box:_ The tags in the red box represent the client work that will be done during the next two-week period. Each tag breaks down the specific work for each attorney and each client.
_Orange circles:_ The numbers in the orange circles (on the tags in the red box) display the estimated number of days each task will take. This keeps the lawyers from being overloaded during the upcoming two weeks, and ensures that they can meet delivery dates. When the work is complete, the attorneys note the actual number of days that it took.
_Blue box:_ The three tags in the blue box form columns for tasks in critical stages: “awaiting comments”; “making revisions”; “filing soon.” As work is completed, the attorneys move the tags from the central area in the red box to the area below the blue box. This section of the board maintains the velocity of work — or, their production pace — by preventing client matter from falling out of sight due to other work.
_Green box:_ The tags in the green box show tasks that need to be done beyond the upcoming two weeks. At the appropriate time, these tags are moved into the central section of the board in the red box.

> The tasks for each event are listed down the left, while the name of each event (and date, if it’s been finalized) runs across the top. The date by which each task needs to be completed is listed in the appropriate square. Once the task is done, it’s replaced with a green dot. If there’s a problem, it gets a red dot.
