## What makes a good crimp?

The crimp on the left is "gas tight", which is needed when contacts are used near their current rating and to make sure they last a long time with low failure potential.
## Crimping vs [[soldering]]

If a pin is soldered, the solder will probably wick up the conductor. The point where the conductor wires touch the solder is susceptible to mechanical failure. A small amount of movement can start breaking the strands.
